Useful Moving Tips
Pack away “odds and ends”
Often times it is the little random items that take up the most time when moving
Pack in Boxes
Bags tend to tear easily. Also, packing in bags doesn’t afford us the ability to use apparatus like hand trucks and dollies to carry more than one item at a time. We have a complete array of moving supplies. Contact us for special pricing.
Don’t pack your boxes too heavy
The heavier they are, the longer it takes for us to carry. Rule of Thumb: If you can’t lift the box by the flaps pass your knees, then the box is too heavy.
Grab a marker
Label all boxes with the ROOM, LOCATION, CONTENTS and NUMBER. This will help keep your move organized and assist
Clear pathways & doorways
This allows for smooth, expeditious transferring of your items.
Drain your Air Conditioner
Condensation causes AC’s to leak when they’re turned off, which can cause a slip and fall accident
Unscrew Light bulbs
Remove bulbs before packing your lamps. They tend to break in transport
Completely wrap your mattress in plastic
Our vehicles are cleaned nightly, but we want to eliminate any possible threat of bedbugs so we ask that all of our customers wrap their mattress for their safety and ours
Empty Drawers of all items
This may seem like an inconvenience but this lessens the likelihood of damage to your property)
Protect memories & High-End items
Our movers are careful, but mistakes still happen and no insurance can cover invaluable items
Mover’s Best Friend
We love pets but they tend to get in the way of the moving process
Not only for lunch
Keep sandwich bags handy for holding any small parts of things you have to take apart, like screws and hardware.
Like A Scout
Be prepared and make sure everything is completely packed before your movers arrive. This allows for a smoother transition between locations. This can add up to tremendous time savings for you which can equate to hundreds of dollars.
Purge and make $$$
Try to list/post your unwanted items on Craigslist, Etsy, or EBay about a month before your move.
Donate & Feel Good
Another option is donating it to a local Salvation Army, Goodwill or any other non-profit 501(c) (3) organization. They can give you a charitable donation receipt if so inclined. Arrange for a charity organization to come pick up the items you don’t want at least 2 week before moving. If they are booked, have us donate it on your behalf on moving day.
Make your last grocery trip two weeks prior to moving.
This will minimize any spoilage during your move. This will also make it easier to clean your refrigerator because there are fewer contents inside. If you have any canned or dried food that you no longer want, consider donating them to Move for Hunger. We are one of their Moving Partners. Feel free to ask one of our movers for a box for your donated items.
Protect Your Memories
If it’s irreplaceable, take it with you in the car (you don’t want regrets later). But if you do decide to pack framed photos or art, place sheets or blankets between them for added protection. If you are unsure, let your moving agent know, that you want added protection for the item(s).
How to Choose a Mover
Make sure your mover is reputable by looking them up on the FMCSA website
You can also find movers on the National and State Moving Association websites. Lastly, find them on review sites that vet various companies such as Yelp and Angie’s List.
